    If they can do it, so can Amazon, Microsoft, and Cisco.

    I was just in DC and the western burbs around Dulles airport are filled with data centers, all built in the last few years. Few use clean energy. Hopefully as the economics continue to improve, it will become automatic.

      Apple and Google represent quite a bit different enterprise than some of the other high-tech companies you cite,like Amazon, Microsoft, Cisco, or even Intel.  Apple and Google are mostly data handlers who can predict their hourly power consumption needs pretty accurately for each installation they establish.  Those other high-tech companies have major power fluctuations because of their processes which do not lend themselves to using the current renewable energy systems without considerable penalty.  It's much easier to plan the energy source when demand is going to be a flat line or at least a plane rather than some spiky, high'n'low load graph.
