  •  If you are a church member (6+ / 0-)

you can also ask around there to see if anyone is in need. As our kids grow, when we need to get rid of furnishings and equipment like strollers and carseats, we ask the "church ladies" if any parishioners are in need.  There is always someone who can use what we are offering, and the passing on of useful things feels so good.

We love giving away items that were treasured by us and our kids, in the hopes that they will bring the same warm memories to the new owners.  Did anyone see Toy Story 3?  The ending brought tears to my eyes because it illustrated perfectly what I think some of us are saying here.  Sometimes when you can no longer use something, you still sentimentally want it to "go to a good home" and bring the same joy to someone else.
