  •  Never been in a "real" slot canyon, but I hope to (3+ / 0-)

someday.  They are a little scary to me, I have seen some flash floods and don't want to be part of one.  Abbey's Desert Solitaire has a good description of one as I recall.

Drove through Cockscomb Monocline back around 1980.  Breath taking and hazardous to vehicles back then.  Road looks better now.  Some arches out there, too.

Nice list of the slots, will keep this for future reference.  Thanks!

    •  a grand list of slots, indeed! (4+ / 0-)

and that's why I posted the info for the DKos community. I've never been one to be known for hoarding such info. Anyway, slots are mostly safe, because incidents involving trapped (and/or drowned) hikers are minimal. The reason for this is because there is so much cautionary info relayed, such as this diary just did, and I think most people really do act intelligently before entering slots. That Cockscomb drive, since you mentioned it. . .talk about an axle breaker and blow-out city (at least when I was last there). Thanks for posting your comment, ipaman.

Treat the world (yourself, and others) as part of a living organism. Everyone and everything will benefit.
