A generational contract needs to be managed with multiple generations in mind.

    •  80 cents more per worker per week (9+ / 0-)

per year (I.e. $1.60 more in year 2 etc) makes Social Security solvent not just to 2075 but through the Trustees 'Infinite Future Horizon'.

Given really pessimistic projection of Real Wage and Productivity included in the Trustees current projection.

That is all it would take. Google 'Northwest Plan for a Real Social Security Fix'.

On the other hand a return to historical rates of productivity and corresponding shares of that going to Real Wage solves the problem with no change in FICA.

But don't try to Google that. Not because you won't find the data, but because a couple of birdies told me that would be the subject of Dean Baker's contribution to the dKos SS Blogathon. Just stay tuned to this Bat Channel at that Bat Time.

      •  I'm all for it and some type of expansion. (6+ / 0-)

I still see this as an opportunity for Progressives to play offense as well as defense. Sometimes it feels we only have the passion and resolve for defense.
