    have better sensors and to be able to "see" inside the body non-invasively so that "accidents" like this happen.

    Some very smart people are working on this.

    A long time ago, 1967 to be exact,  I had a mass that  didn't show up on x-ray. I don't remember if they even had ultra sound back then. So the surgeon had to go in. I wasn't a bit worried until my surgeon said don't worry it is not going to be cancer; you're too young. That got me worried — I hadn't even thought of that possibility till he said that.

    Fortunately it turned out to be something rather unimportant — but could have been lethal if ignored. And it was found absolutely by chance when an exam was looking for something else.
