    Considering the global effects of Tambora and Lakagígar, it might kill off 25% of the human population and massively disrupt the economic systems which support the extraction and transport of fossil fuels, which could destroy modern "civilization" before it makes the planet uninhabitable for humans.  So, not so totally bad.  Taking the really nasty medicine to cure the fatal illness, so to speak.

    Of course, that assumes that many regions would be down to cannibalism before food production restabilized, IF it restabilized on any global scale.
