  •  What can we do about Arne? (10+ / 0-)

Our national education policy is more of the same--charters, "pay-for-performance" (ie, wage compression), and more of the corporate crap.

We (the regular folks) are not represented by either party when it comes to education.  I see little or no hope.

more difficult.  You have to love a challenge.  Personally I think corporate funded "Rheeform" will have its victories, but when another 5 to 10 years pass and educational performance is not improved, as it has not been improved already, people will eventually wake up to the fact that it's not producing what was promised.  And we'll have privatized schools to add to the experience of privatized prisons.  Then the pendulum will begin to swing back.  Of course, gobs of money that could have gone to actually helping children learn and improve their lives and time will have been wasted in the process....

as large numbers of professional educators are forced out and school buildings are sold off

both of these trends will make it hard to undo the damage that is done

If we lose the public school system entirely, rebuilding it could take decades of very hard struggle indeed.  I'm just trying to stay hopeful.  It would be very, very foolish for this country to lose what is really one of its last great public institutions, the public schools.  I don't think all is or will be lost.  There are too many districts in which the schools are mostly fine and the population stands behind it.  We will be the bastions that keep the concept alive.
