    used to be thought that power storage technologies were said to be needed to make solar and wind truly viable sources, but with such cheap power coming from those sources in such abundance, the more expensive gas-fired plants now may want to look into storage as a way to smooth out their business model: fire up to replenish their storage mechanism for a few hours at a time, then trickle out the stored power as needed. Its still inefficient and too expensive but when the demand is there and they are the only supply, they can probably demand the higher prices.
