  •  I'm disappointed... (10+ / 0-)

...but not particularly surprised.  I've taught all kinds, and he's hardly the worst offender.

But it happened just when I was in the mood to write a diary, so here we are.

I've been a teacher for decades.  It's what I do, and they come and they go.

Mostly something like this reminds me how important it is to publicly thank and acknowledge my own teachers.  "It's never too late to say thank you."  Alec Wilder said that.

    •  In an earlier (part of) life... (6+ / 0-)

..I was an ICU/RR/ER nurse. I did that for about 6 years.  You know how many times I've saved somebody's life? Can't count 'em. You know how many times I've had people COME BACK to the hospital to find me and thank me?

Never. Not once. I once walked past a couple which the woman was one of my patients. They knew who I was, but never said a word. She was a patient for almost 6 months.

I realize people don't remember their ICU experience. And that recovery takes them places where they begin to tire of it all and want to forget the whole experience.

A different dynamic at work, but maybe not so different. Because it's a choice who we choose to hold dear and those we discard.

I believe humans are selfish by nature. It's something we need to learn to overcome in childhood. Many people never do.
