... to all those anti-abortion fanatics, if you are brought to tears over a clump of unformed cells but choose your precious gun over someone else's fully formed child you aren't allowed to say shit about abortion anymore.
MoT runs a close (in my mind, anyways) second.
It is phrasing like this that will help to clarify what the f we are advocating for, and against. A fetus's "right to life" doesn't trump my child's right to go to school, or the movies, or walk down the street without getting blown to bits because assault weapons are all to easy to come by in States that have made abortions almost impossible to procure.

Sorry. Sen Feinstein has been in the Senate a long time. She knew the votes weren't there. She knew this wasn't going anywhere and it won't. It's doubtful there will even be background check improvements. But man look at those TV Cameras she was getting. "Glory Days".

What it did do was give the families of the kids killed any many more, false hope. It helped raise gazillions of dollars for Campaigns from organizations for and against. It made a shit load of money for the arms makers.

Her stand did everything the NRA and the Gun Manufacturers wanted it to do. I do believe that the good Senator remembers what happened in 1994.

A wave election occurred giving the GOP both houses for 12 years and did nothing to stop the import and sale of assault weapons. Why? She put in the same grandfather clause that she proposed for this bill. The very same clause that made many people very rich and whole lot of idiots very poor.  The one that allowed all the existing assault weapons to be grandfathered.

The Clause that screamed "Buy now or you'll never get another chance" . Yet for businesses that were about to be stomped by the BS Assault weapon Ban, their stocks advanced 25-35% . Large dividends were paid. Shareholders were delighted. The Rugers and Sturms CEO said "we are selling everything we make and we are running three shifts".

All the time , the Good Senator knew that the votes weren't there.  False hope was given to those who wanted to see them gone while  a huge "scarcity" premium was added to ammunition and assault rifles as Gun store shelves literally ran empty.

No, she didn't do anything here. At 79 and wealthy she wasn't taking any chances either.

The ones that are clapping the loudest are the NRA and the Gun Manufacturers.  The Dems are never going to risk another 1994. Never.

This is exhibit A of why so many of us are cynical about 99% of the politicians.

OH DEAR if Dems don't SHUT UP about guns it'll be JUST LIKE 1994 when they lost the Congressional majority.

Why is her age a factor to you, other than the fact that she's been a gun control advocate since discovering Harvey Milk's murdered body? What "chances" is she supposed to take? Throw herself on a train track unless her bill succeeds? Brandish a weapon on the floor of Congress and threaten to out Lindsay Graham's "lifestyle choices?" Why would you reserve opprobrium for the one person willing to assign her name to fight for gun control and remain mute about the dozens of Senators who demonstrate slavish lockstep fidelity to the NRA (and therefore the gun manufacturers who you claim to deplore). The votes "weren't there" for gay rights either, but times change. Do you think gay rights advocates should have simply hung it up until the "votes were there?" How exactly is that kind of system supposed to yield victory? You are adopting a kind of perverse political philosophy which holds Charlie Sheen's "winning" mantra as it's ideal.

I know some would prefer literally nothing be done, but some of us prefer something to nothing. There's nothing cool about cynicism. And there's an old line about being part of the solution...

Suddenly she is a hero for dusting off the bill  that briefly  brought her great glory in 1994 and decidedly did nothing to stop the flow of illegal assault weapons or large magazines. Just like this time they increased sales  by several multiples before the bill and then there was the black market after the bill.

So if you pull out the same bill 20 years after the bill you wrote or had written or was written for her which people know didn't do shit last time, except make the Gun manufacturers stinkin rich and got the Dems tossed from both houses , you are a hero for trying again? Is that your fricking definition of a hero?

A hero is someone who has something to lose when they make a stand. Lets get our definitions right. All she did was repeat something that didn't work 20 years ago.

Then of course there is that definition of insanity...

Now is she had pulled out that bill and wiped out the mistakes like the grandfather clause and made it illegal simply to possess it, it wouldn't have gotten passed just like the assault weapon ban lite but at least people who were around back then and are here now and have the advantage of hindsight wouldn't look at her like she had either lost her mind because of age or was just trying to find a time where once again she would be the toast of the Senate until they lost it.

WTF? She is probably not gonna stand again right?
