  •  I was privileged to know all of my (17+ / 0-)

grandparents, both sides and 1 great grandparent.
I also knew all of my maternal and my paternal great aunt and uncles.  I still have all but two uncles on my paternal side and in contact with them.

Our family on the maternal side came from Holland and then migrated to New Jersey in the late 1700's.  Part of the bunch migrated to Cowpen, SC whereas they either ended up in Jacksonville or Ga.  The rest remained in Jersey or splintered off into Bucks county Pa.   The names were changed around some depending on their location.  Vanzandt, Vanzant, Vansant.

On the paternal side, the heritage was mostly farmers and some cherokee heritage.  My great grandmother died when I was 13.  She was almost 100 years old.  She still lived with just one son at home and buried all of her children but one, who passed prior to her. (I remember the discussion of how sad that was).  She was quite and I never remember much but folks doitng on her.   I also knew my Grandmother's Daddy who also was a farmer and him talking farming.

My maternal grandparents were lively.  My grandfather was a Watkins salesman, studied law , a teacher and ran for state legislator on the republican ticket in the state of Ga.  He talked politics all the time. ( some things rub off).
Both of my maternal grandparents were industrious and had a hand in raising us.  My paternal was widowed at an early age and was very proper and church going.  I loved her but she was not nearly as close to me as my grandparents on Mama's side.   In 73, my grandfather flew me to New York for a national reuion in Jersey.
My paternal grandmother died in the 90's at 93 and my Dad is still alive.
