    ...around with men she wasn't married to. She lived in an era where women where she lived (the South)...and of her social status (she and my mom's dad were "white migrant farmers" until he got a gig in a new and upcoming field = drilling for oil in east Texas. Since they were dirt poor and did the same work as black people in the south = followed the cotton crop mostly from state to state to harvest, the were considered in the South to be...well I'll just state it...they were called "worse than n-words."

    Anyway, my mom's mom did "upward mobility through relationships with men." It worked well for her. She got all sorts of gifts, clothes, money for food for her kids. She eventually married a wealthy man in southern Illinois. He owed the organ store (organs were actually a big thing back then), and he was the mayor of the little town of Benton, Ill.

    Ignorance is bliss only for the ignorant. The rest of us must suffer the consequences.
