are moving to accept marriage equality"--True but for many advanced countries this was decided long ago.  In Canada, gay marriage has been legal for a decade.  The same in many European countries.  There's a tendency to view a what's happening as "groundbreaking".  I suppose in the US it is but not so much in many other countries.

      does it not?

My point on that was however broader.  Spain, a Catholic nation, has marriage equality.

      Mexico City has it.

Two states in Brazil, which is by far the country with the largest Catholic population (at least on paper), has two states, one of which is Sao Paolo, which have marriage equality and I  believe all or most of the rest of the states recognize those marriages.

No, it will not happen in Muslim countries in the foreseeable future.

But I suspect that it will continue to advance around the world.

the two women got married in Canada, lived in NY where same sex marriage is recognized.  When one died the other was hit with a 300K tax bill for inheritance that she would not have had to pay had DOMA not prevented the IRS from recognizing the marriage
