  •  When he says "objective" he means the Bible! (9+ / 0-)

    Can you believe it?

    Mike Huckabee March 21, 2003

It seems as if every day, a new voice joins the chorus telling conservatives and religious believers that if they don’t embrace same-sex marriage, surely, they will perish, at least politically. ...

Before you make up your mind, ask yourself: is it a decision you can reconcile with an objective standard of morality, like the Bible? Or are you just bending with the prevailing winds?

I went looking for some explanation as to how the Bible qualifies as "Objective".

I found this gem in the wiki Christian section:

... the primary objective of the Bible was to teach next generation of followers (Israel) peoples what worked and did not work and what their prior generations suffered and flourished due to what pleased God and what did not please God...

The Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek authors were also in many cases very hardcore Warriors, Priests, Judges and Kings and thus speaking directly with God they would want to keep as accurate accounts as possible...

Thus to answer, the Bible is objective history because the authors were Holy men and some of which was dictated from God Himself.

can use to claim support for their own values and prejudices. The ones they can't use 'are not meant to be taken literally'.

This quote sums up their "objectivity" perfectly.

“You can safely assume that you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.”

(from Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott; on page 22 of Bird by Bird she attributes this quote to “my priest friend Tom”)
