    The name Kalispell is a Salish word meaning "flat land above the lake".
    This is the only version I've ever heard.  Certainly that doesn't mean it's not the only possibility I suppose.

      that's the misconception that the local chamber of commerce puts out. Obviously, some one with no understanding of Indian names thought this one up 'cause it sounded better.
