    Im a Seattleite also, Im not sure Dick's is a good comparison. Dick's is a right of passage for lots of people here, especially college aged folks. I do agree with what you are saying though.

      Dick's competition is mostly national fast-food chains that treat their employees the same way Walmart does. Part of why Dick's is a right of passage is that decent wages make the job attractive. You get old guys reminiscing with not so old guys about their fond memories of working at Dick's because they were treated well enough to enjoy working in fast food for a while. Content people work better and care more for the company. I never worked at Dick's, but worked at another fast-food restaurant when I was young. I don't look back on it fondly, because I was over-worked, making minimum wage, and treated like an expendable commodity. I did what the boss demanded, didn't care about the company, and left for the first better offer.

      Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your shackles. It is by the picket line and direct action that true freedom will be won, not by electing people who promise to screw us less than the other guy.
