    There is no unified notion of "civil union", so it depends on where and what we're talking about.  In some cases it's otherwise identical to marriage (at least on paper), and in some cases it comes with significantly less.

      I want this whole thing over with and EQUALITY FOR ALL. It's in the Constitution and Bill of Rights and it's pissing me off today that DOMA is in the hands of a couple of batshit crazy people who have the final say.

      Thanks for the info - it's a state thing then and how the state interprets it.
