    before I got a massive kidney stone. A week in the hospital cost me €150.  Good timing.  Another benefit of living over here is that I don't eat so much crap (It is not so available as in the States) so I am much healthier now.

      I lived in Germany in the 80's and had my appendix out, they mandated a 10-day stay in the hospital to recover, which is silly but that's their medical paradigm. (I'll bet that has changed since then!!) The surgery was excellent and expert, I have barely a scar. The whole thing cost me DM 5, which was the $3 or so annual registration fee for my insurance (national plan, student). No other bills, nada, zip, nichts.
