  •  I'm so glad your SS journey went so smoothly. (9+ / 0-)

You'd think at our age (since we are about the same point in life) that we wouldn't have to keep proving we were born.  You would think that existing drivers licenses and passports should do the trick.  Maybe just another way to force us to pay for government services - which I don't mind doing (gotta be job security for someone) - but it's just the process that frustrates me.

Been working for 47 years on the same social security number, have yearly Social Security earnings reports going back 15 years and five address changes.  You'd think if I could amass enough historical documents - there should be no more proving I was born.  - must be trying to rip myself off.

Thanks for sharing your uplifting story - I'm really glad it went well for you.  Gives me a little hope for the rest of my process with Soc Sec.

    •  I really hope the rest of YOUR process (5+ / 0-)

just imagine our spouses/children/siblings having to prove we died when we pass LOL.

Just a bit of levity in a frustrating process.

      •  Good point - I've had to do that with my parents (5+ / 0-)

not funny in a HA-HA type of way
But in a revenge type of way.
        Thanks!!!!

when you die to prove you lived.

I am so glad we adopted our grandkids for more than one reason, especially the last one.  That crazy bio Mom just picked out a name that was not legal as she was legally Married an put a ficticious name   on the birth certificate.   The child did not take her name or his. ( one of possible 4 fathers)   When we adopted, we had social services go in and obtain the regular Brth Certificate which did not match the footprints or the mother's legal name and then our attorney filed for Social Security, Birth Certificate and all legally changed to our name which they do in adoption in all cases but that child would have had a multitude of problems with those kind of shennanigans.

    •  You would think that nearly 50 years of (6+ / 0-)

paying taxes using our SS numbers would be good enough....but no.  Got to make sure that no one cheats!
