    but then 3 years later I divorced, good riddance to him, and had to change everything back. From then on I said never again. So 6 years later when I remarried I kept my maiden name. 32 years later we're still together.

    Only person who complained was my cranky mother-in-law: what is this, she thinks she's too good to have our name?

    Very much an oddity still, in the parts where I live though.

      I never heard what my mother-in-law thought about it.  My brother-in-law did say he thought it was a slap in the face to their family.  My own mother was just concerned that the mailman would think we were living in sin.  Lol!

      But my husband didn't particularly care whether I changed my name, and that was really the only opinion that mattered.  Well, besides mine, of course!  Wish I'd managed to convince him that the kids should have my last name, but that was going a bit too far for him.
