  •  When I was in High School I came across (9+ / 0-)

a book about how to handicap horse races.  I was enthralled by it.  So much math and statistics and trend analysis.  Plus, just the good old allure of a horse track.  I read that book and for a good 6 months I would buy the Daily Racing form each day just to practice the system outlined in the book and track my results on paper to see if it worked.  I was too young to go to Santa Anita  and place a bet myself, and didn't have an income to provide gambling money.

The "system" outlined in the book worked often enough to keep you in the money.

But, I soon realized, it was no better than just reading the Racing Form and looking at the Handicapper's picks that were published each day.  No math...no system.
