I have a sister who, like me, was raised a Catholic.  Despite the fact I have a partner of 23 years, she toes the church line on marriage equality.  She treats my partner nicely, but refuses to acknowledge the reality of our love.  She blindly dismisses the idea that there is any real reason why we should even WANT to marry.  I know she would deny animus.  But the fact of the matter is, she wants the law to discriminate against me and the man I love.  Her excuse is her religion.  I wish she would understand that religious based bigotry is still bigotry.

Most Catholics I know support marriage equality precisely because they're forced to understand the difference between the legal contract of marriage and the religious rite of holy matrimony.
