The resentment is growing.  I think we're one or two election cycles away from people openly campaigning on racism.

They will tire of hiding it.  They will try to dress it up as "liberty".  Something like "Freedom of Association is also Freedom from Association" and start talking about how there is nothing wrong with people wanting to associate only with people of their own race.  They'll borrow Jefferson's "pursuit of happiness" and try to point out conjured hypocrisy about Black churches being 100% black and Latino community organizations focusing only on Latinos or something.

They will slander "diversity" as some kind of tyranny, an imposition of will and legal force on what Patriotic Americans are allowed to think or feel.

We all know these people are out there, but I think a few more years, especially if they lose another election or two (President H. R. Clinton, anyone?)  ... I think they feel compelled to try and go mainstream with it.

We're close.  We are very, very close....

What I like the most about where we are now is that we're on the cusp of having a country where the dominant party doesn't have to ally with the bloc of white (usually southern) racists to get anything done.

We had fits and starts of it in 2009-11, and the Tea Party was a last-ditch attempt to reassert that bloc's role as kingmaker.  But the trend is inexorable... and in our favor.  Because if the Republicans ditch the racists, who have they got left?

Conservatives need to realize that their Silent Moral Majority is neither silent, nor moral, nor a majority.
