  •  Our real deficit problem has to do with (8+ / 0-)

infrastructure, jobs, health and education deficits, not fiscal deficits. We have less of the former, in a form that's useful and affordable, than we need. Far, far, far less. Which in turn is contributing to the fiscal deficit, because it makes us unable to be as productive as we could and should be. How does one get a job in a growth industry with worker shortages such as tech or green energy if one can't get, or can't afford to get, the proper basic education and specialized training for it? Or the health care one needs to perform it well?

We've been running a bait and switch economy for decades in which profits have gone increasingly to owners and managers and not labor, and been based increasingly on exploiting cheap labor and the environment, gaming the system, government favoratism, and the financialization everything. It's a rigged game that's not doing what economies should be doing, which is to grow in a sustainable and healthy manner and in a way that exploits no one and benefits everyone. I.e. the rich have been cheating and we've been suffering. That they technically "own" everything is utterly besides the point. They "own" everything BECAUSE they've cheated.

Ultimately, the real deficit is a moral one. Theirs.
