    You're right, the bible never expressly forbids polygamy anywhere.  King Solomon had 300 wives and 700 concubines (at least according to the Biblical text) - God never said, "Hey Solomon!  Ya gotta show 999 of those ladies the door!  Only  one wife dude!"

    Monogamy, as reflected in the New Testament gospels, merely reflects the Roman norm of the day.  That is it.  

    So biblically based argument for marriage as a union of one man and one woman only is a FAIL.

    Also, your friend sure did not listed to the Church and State separation argument - it sailed right over his lil' pointy head!  We don't legislate or civil laws based on the Bible.  Or the Bagavad Gita, or the writings of the saints of Sikhs, or any other religious texts!
