Tell me, in small words if you must, why the fuck this is a smart thing to do.

All it does is make the Republicans look good.

You may think that. I couldn't possibly comment.-- Francis Urqhart

    •  it's positioning (0+ / 0-)

republicans are going to continue to block everything. which a fairly large percentage of the public wants.

Obama's goal is to widen the gap in our favor. It's kabuki theater. It's a game. We are stuck in this until after the 2014 elections and probably until after 2016.

it's working too. as obama talks to the country about a balanced approach to reduce our debt while not injuring our recovery, republicans are publicly making asses of themselves.

If his goal is to show how wingnutty he can get and still not get a deal,  all it shows is how much he's willing to give away.

He's shown the willingness to give far too much away and I no longer trust him as an honest negotiator.

        •  At this point, it is mainly for the media. (0+ / 0-)

They are stuck on this meme of the President not having relationships with the GOP and therefore unable to get a deal.  By simultaneously having the "charm" offensive as well as a reasonable budget, it will at least silence the incompetent, lazy media.  Maybe then we can get back to the real crisis:  Jobs.

          •  well for the media to report (0+ / 0-)

they certainly aren't reporting the lengths republicans have gone to block, stall or prevent anything from being done.

the media could be doing stories every day about all the stuff republicans are blocking.

however, we have seen some progress. david gregory has asked republicans some questions and outright told them they were wrong a few times.  i know, little steps..

republicans won't accept the sweetest deal.

so again it's kabuki.  but don't stop calling congress etc.
