    when I was growing up on the ranch in SD.  Every time I'd walk down to the creek and poke around during the early evening, I'd come home with several bites.  And they did itch like crazy.  What I remember my mother doing was first, get an ice cube and rub it over the bites, which calmed the itching immediately, albeit temporarily.  Then she put a pinkish solution that looked a bit like Pepto Bismol but was thinner.  All I remember is that it was made -- or maybe just sold -- by Stanley, which, in those days, only sold door-to-door.  Every time he came, my mother would order another bottle or two.  It worked very, very well.  Wish I could remember the name of the goop, though.
