  •  I would not mind telling my story... (8+ / 0-)

though I'm a bit shy about doing it, I think maybe writing about the success of my rehabilitation from mental illness might be useful to people here.

    •  sorry for delay (4+ / 0-)

had company for dinner... I believe that you're right about your experience being relevant and useful. I had a mental illness issue myself not too long ago, and did a KosAbility diary. I was really shy and embarrassed about the whole thing, but all the voices here were kind, understanding, and helpful.

If you'd like to talk more about it, maybe send me a kosmail?

      •  Heh, you'd probably get me better than anyone (4+ / 0-)

I see you're a former paramedic... thats my current profession and the leap I took to get out of my disability. You'd probably understand how its now dragging me down, but I'm not ready to give up yet.

it can be so fraught, so heavy sometimes, that it is hard to bear other people's tribulations. I know I learned a lot during that time, as I did with teaching. Especially if you are someone who internalizes others' pain.

I think you must be incredibly brave to choose that career when you're in pain yourself, but it can be so healing to help others, especially in high energy, crisis situation with a fairly defined endpoint. I've got my fingers crossed for you- EMS is becoming like primary care for the disenfranchised, and good paramedics, while not quite rare as hen's teeth, are ever more important.
