There is no possible way that Charles and I could have children. He had a vasectomy years before we met, and I had kidney problems that, among other things, made me infertile long before I got diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease or End Stage Renal Disease. Now I have had a transplant for two years and could theoretically have kids if I weren't post-menopausal. We cannot be "fruitful", unless the real "fruit" of a marriage is true love and committed partnership that endures through anything. I rather think it is. The diarist thus is amply capable of having a true marriage.

Organ donors save lives! A donor's kidney gave me my life back on 02/18/11; he lives on in me. Please talk with your family about your wish to donate.

Why are war casualty counts "American troops" and "others" but never "human beings"?

And my marriage is probably even more "shammy" than yours, since we're childless by choice.

But I prefer to see it your way:

the real "fruit" of a marriage is true love and committed partnership that endures through anything.
40 years' worth. I wish Frank and Michael a relationship of the same strength and duration as ours.

Or, in the words of a sign seen outside the Supreme Court last week during the oral arguments: "Gay people should have the right to be just as miserable as I make my husband". ;^)

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."........ "The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little." (yeah, same guy.)
