  •  if you are dealing with ideas set in concrete (3+ / 0-)

you have to start somewhere and I would guess many students would not stomp on a piece of paper with Jesus written on it because of fear of divine retribution.

Now if the guy had folded the paper so it said Jesus and students refused to stomp it and then would unfold it so it said Jesus Garcia, to see if they would stomp it, he would have had the beginning of a discussion about assumptions we make in everyday life without all of the facts.

I spent years dealing with such students who were smug and self satisfied and convinced they were the ones best suited to decide what should be taught.  For example, I once gave the class a treatise by D James Kennedy, supposedly disproving evolution and asked them to go through the pamphlet identifying various logical fallacies committed by the author.  The basic premise was there were fallacies in the text and this was the given in the assignment.  a significant number undertook to disprove evolution and to prove Kennedy right and me wrong

between assigning students to interpret "piss christ" and to recreate it.  There's a line, and the teacher was over it.

Your end of the Constitution is sinking.
