  •  My 82 year old uncle recently passed away. He had (11+ / 0-)

been a closeted gay man his entire life.  At the end, his long time companion Peter cared for him as he died.  My family, aware all along of his sexual orientation, even though he tried to hide it, was very grateful to Peter for caring for our uncle.  Even my 84 year old father, over the past few years, has commented that it doesn't matter if he was gay.  This is a huge transformation, and when it even includes so-called social conservatives and 80 year-olds, I think we are experiencing a sea change.  I only regret that so many people have had to maintain a secret life, unable to share with their families their true identity.  It must have been so difficult...and painful.
