    It sounds fantastic.

Going down Boucher almost did me in. It wasn't particularly difficult but downhills have always been trickier for me and there was a place at twilight where the exposure was so sheer and the downhill so steep, I froze. My companion had to coax me past it and we had to make camp right after that, I was so exhausted from sheer terror. Then in the morning starting at 8:00 on the dot the planes started flying over, a couple dozen of them in a couple of hours before we quit counting.

But those are quibbles. The good part, the exhilaration of that five days -- there are no words for that. It's in the pictures.

    •  the debate of down and up canyon hiking... (4+ / 0-)

has always gone both ways, but I think most will agree going down canyon is the hardest. Especially is this the case on what we call "canyon toe" where they get slammed against the front of the boot thereby rendering very painful hemetomas. I, of course, know how to puncture the toe nail and release the pressure for students or myself, which some people just won't go along with, thinking it is the most painful thing in the world. What the most painful thing is comes next: not releasing the building pressure. Of course, you lose the toe nail or nails, but they'll grow back in about 6 months time. Strictly EMT stuff. Anyway, I climb the goat (probably smell like one, too) straight up if need be, because I know it's easier for me to go out then in. The Boucher is a steep mother coming in, by the way, which means it is tricky to climb out that way. The Hance is also a rough trail, but well worth the hiking. Thanks for posting another comment, dsb.

Treat the world (yourself, and others) as part of a living organism. Everyone and everything will benefit.
