Last year, the San Diego daily newsrag was purchased by an ultra-right-wing real estate developer, Doug Manchester (known for his very large contribution to the campaign to pass the anti-marriage-equality Proposition 8) and his equally ultra-right-wing sidekick John Lynch.

There was a sportswriter at this newspaper (Tim Sullivan) who had written a sports column a few years earlier in which he compared Lynch to Citizen Kane.

The newspaper fired Sullivan a few months after Manchester/Lynch took control of the paper.

Oh, by the way, rumor has it that Manchester/Lynch want to buy the LA Times.  Another rumor (maybe just speculation) is the Koches would "invest" in Manchester's newspaper enterprise to provide him with the means to buy the LA Times.
