  •  Hey fellow Utah Kossack! (8+ / 0-)

Just wanted to say hi. There's few enough of us as it is, so it's nice to see another progressive from the state.

Regarding Hatch, I have no idea what's going on. Maybe he and his staff are going off the deep end?

I also want to make my voice heard, as while I am represented by Jim Matheson on the national Congressional level, I'm represented by Ken Ivory on the local level. Maybe we (and other Utah Kossacks) should form some kind of group plus an ActBlue thing to promote Utah Democratic candidates (or even find them in the first place)?

I've lived in West Jordan for 14 years (since I was 5) though.

I volunteered at the state Dem convention last year, but that's about all the personal experience I have. I met Ben McAdams (who is one of my personal political heroes in Utah) there though.

I wish there was a Democrat who could beat Ken Ivory or Wayne Harper (the GOPer who replaced Waddoups in the state senate).

    •  Kossack in a strange land.... (8+ / 0-)

I'm, as you can see by my sig, a UTE DEM....a stranger in a strange land. Work in SLC live in Stansb Pk in Tooele county. Chris Stewart is also my rep (God bless gerrymandering an indoor sport absolutely perfected by the controlling party of Utah). I noticed recently he decided that climate change was an old wives tale...I have thus decided that I must have traded in Rob Bishop (a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Solutions) for yet another chowder head!

Though I'm a recent transplant to Utah, and indeed the US. My conclusion so far? Utah's politics are weird. And not always weird in a bad way... just weird.

I've always seen Utah politics as rather bland. Old conservative white guys everywhere, except for the occasional woman or Hispanic (or indeed, Hispanic woman) legislator.

Oh, and where are you from?

it seems a lot less conservative than I'd have expected, apart from in a few key areas that the Mormon church is fixated on. Not really liberal, but certainly softer on issues like immigration than some less red states.

And I'm from the UK originally! I have been here now for about one and a half years.
