  •  "Greece's neo-Nazi Golden Dawn goes global... (7+ / 0-)

with political ambitions.  As this disturbing report in yesterday's Guardian noted, the ugliness isn't just here:

Emboldened by its meteoric rise in Greece, the far-right Golden Dawn party is spreading its tentacles abroad, amid fears it is acting on its pledge to "create cells in every corner of the world". The extremist group, which forged links with British neo-Nazis when it was founded in the 1980s, has begun opening offices in Germany, Australia, Canada and the US...

...Golden Dawn (is) entrenching its position as Greece's third, and fastest growing, political force...

"Like-minded groups in Europe and Russia have given the party ideological, and sometimes financial, support to print books and magazines. After years of importing nazism, it now wants to export nazism," added Psarras...

..party members regularly met with neo-Nazis from Germany, Italy and Romania. "It wants to spread its influence worldwide..."

In March, 2012, the BBC reported:  Germany's new breed of neo-Nazis pose a threat
"The security services in Germany are scrambling to track down and arrest far-right fugitives...This comes after a public outcry following revelations in November that a neo-Nazi cell had apparently been able to go on a nationwide spree of racially motivated murders over several years, under the noses of the German intelligence services..."

The New Nazis of Europe: Coming to America?

The resurgence of Nazi and neo-Nazi movements in Europe is attracting more attention in the United States...

...There has been a growing recognition by mainstream European political forces that these incidents can no longer be shrugged off as fringe manifestations...

...Russia has both internal problems with neo-Nazi groups, and a national political interest in focusing on their growth in the Baltic states...

As author Richard Brodsky noted in the above section the US needs to join the fight against this rising resurgence of ugliness:
..if there's any lesson to be learned from history, it's that we are better off erring on the side of concern before things take off...

...The useless slaughter and cost of World War II is still know to Americans... Our ability to fight our old enemies of anti-Semitism and racism is complicated when today's exponents of that stuff are elected to office and command the streets. And it's not as though the new neo-Nazis are leaving us alone. Golden Dawn has opened an office in Washington, and some of what we've heard from the Baltic states should give the State Department pause. Even the Timothy McVeigh's decision to bomb government buildings still resonates among some extreme right-wing groups...
