I feel compelled to be fair here. (Not that they're ever fair to us, but whatever.)

Assuming I recall correctly (and, although I am currently several drinks to the worse, I am pretty sure I still do), there are a LOT more states that automatically return voting rights to felons (with no review) than there are states that automatically return firearm rights to felons (with no review). I mean an order of magnitude more. Like, there are only three or four states that automatically restore gun rights when asked, and around 40 states that restore to felons the right to vote.

Sure, we can still complain about this, don't get me wrong, because everyone should have their right to vote restored once they've served their time, but let's try not to, you know, make an ass out of you and me kind of thing. You know.

Maybe I should have drank that more slowly. Man. It usually takes a lot more alcohol than this to make me incoherent.

I think we're probably on the same page overall.

I didn't say every state does this, but, IMHO the fact that even one state makes it harder to restore voting rights to than to get a gun permit is terrible.  Without wading into any RKBA fights one way or the other, that's all I was trying to point out.

I happen to think that its voting rights that should be automatically restored, and gun rights that should have some serious review depending on the crime the person was convicted of.

Also, it might not be quite as cut and dry as you think regarding restoration of gun rights: NY Times- Felons Finding It Easy to Restore Gun Rights.
