  •  So very true (18+ / 0-)

I grew up in Cabarrus Co.  I haven't lived in NC since the 1970s, but it is still home to me.

My daughter and my husband plus a number of their friends have settled in NC after college. We talk a lot about the two Carolinas. If you live in the research triangle area where she is, NC seems like a very enlightened place. But, one of her friends is teaching in the Kannapolis school district, and there they are boldly teaching the Bible in elementary school.

Religion has always been a force to be reckoned with in NC. When I was growing up, the Baptist Church was the most powerful political force in the state. Many things have not changed, despite the arrival of a lot of young progressives like my daughter and her friends.
