My God What is wrong with NC?

And I am considering moving there (To one of those, obviously)

I have a lot of family down by that way. Namely, almost all of my mother's side, including her. So whenever I'm traveling down to NC, I'm often conditioned to think of it as a second home. It's the same feeling, in a way, during the moment when I cross into the state borders of Maryland, my native state. So in some respects, it might be a bias and a softer tolerance for its goings-on, but then I've been able to carry this same notion into other areas of the South. I don't see this region of the country as some lost cause. Not at all, and especially NC, which has excelled more than others.

Even in Maryland, there are intense enclaves of the kind of extremism, denial of science, and bigotry people may see as a par for "the South." It's diluted by the heavily urbanized areas that champion progressivism, but given the chance, the extremist tendencies lurking beneath would fly off the handles. The point is that we really are all in this together. And we should understand that what happens in NC does have implications for other areas of the country. Just ask some of the midwestern states that have typically been more moderate how one bad flip to GOP control changes things. There's no where to run. So, I praise the beautiful things about each state, and keep fighting the good fight against the things that work to harm all of us.

Love Asheville, by the way. Wonderful town. =)
