  •  Yes, but which religion? (3+ / 0-)

    Will they have a vote on which religion should be established?

    Will Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Kwanzaa or atheism (yes many Christian fundamentalists consider atheism a religion) be included?

    Which form of Christianity will be on this ballot; Catholicism, Episcopalian-ism, Lutheranism, etc. or will it be just Southern Baptism on the ballot?

    Will Satainism be on some ballot?

    They want to make laws;

    SECTION 1. The North Carolina General Assembly asserts that the Constitution of the United States of America does not prohibit states or their subsidiaries from making laws respecting an establishment of religion.

    SECTION 2. The North Carolina General Assembly does not recognize federal court rulings which prohibit and otherwise regulate the State of North Carolina, its public schools, or any political subdivisions of the State from making laws respecting an establishment of religion

    To make a law they need to be specific, right?

    I almost moved to NC back in the late 80s, I thought it was becoming more progressive.  You know, Research Triangle and all.

    •  IIRC there is a Supreme Court (8+ / 0-)

      decision which lists atheism, secular humanism, spiritualism, and so on, as religions deserving the same protections as the more traditional ones. Back in the 30's, if memory serves.

      Sauce for goose etc.

      If you stop and think about it, a religion does not require a belief in God (Buddhism, Taoism) nor a building (pagans, Taoism) nor a clergy (Quakers) nor a fixed dogma (Unitarians).

      Economics is a social *science*. Can we base future economic decisions on math?

      Indeed, which of the thousands of Christian sects will be picked to be the Official Religion of NC?  And what will that mean for all the ones NOT chosen?  There are soooooo many to choose from:
      Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Coptic, Presbyterian USA, Presbyterian Church in America, 2 different synods of Lutherans, Methodist, Foursquare, Assembly of God, Southern Baptist, a zillion other Baptists, Society of Friends, Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists (Saturday is Sabbath!), Christian Scientists (low health care costs there), Episcopalian, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (yeah, I know many don't define them as Christian but they define themselves as such), United Church of Christ...and so on.  Yeah.  Good luck with that NC.  Let's bring on the religious wars!  I mean, all those other religious wars in history were such fun........
