in both cases, we have issues strongly supported by the GOP base coalition, where they appeared to be winning the day just as attitudes began to substantially shift.

Like with marriage, the right put on a good show - a death rattle, if you will, of ballot measures and the like, and had the conventional media squarely on their side (writing up stories about how gay marriage just isn't supported, how real 'muricans can't get used to it, framing it as a "liberal" issue rather than a mainstream issue, etc.) And other countries began to take it up, like Canada.

But a tipping point was reached, and then the issue slid away from them so fast they didn't know what hit them. that is happening as we speak on marriage. Even republicans are jumping ship on it.

We're a number of years away from that point with guns, but that's where it's going, and the pattern is already emerging. They gun nuts are going to have a good couple of years. We just need to not get "rattled."

      And you are 100% correct.

The tipping point is reached, and there's no turning back.  They will have their death rattle, but you can't stop progress.

Unfortunately, it took a 12/14 to achieve this, and also unfortunately, we all know there will still almost assuredly be further "exclamation points" to continue to drive the point home and ensure we never forget.

more votes against Pro-NRA congress critters.

Meaningful Federal gun safety laws aren't forthcoming until we vote out some of those Rethugs and Dems who ask, "how high?" when the NRA says, "Jump!"   We need to run some Pro Gun Saftey folks against some pro-NRA critters and win a la Robin Kelly.

Gun safety must become an issue in our congresional elections. Until we can demonstrate that going up against the NRA is not a political "Kiss of Death;"  they are going to vote for what the perceive as their own self-interest, not ours.
