    •  1950 was a different world (2+ / 0-)

and they simply don't have the tech, much less the food or education to do what they claim to begin with.

Half the country is starving to death.  They have no concept of what the rest of the world is militarily capable of beyond the posturing of the DMV as a people - KJU is educated in the west - but he has to keep power by keeping the generals focused on something other than his youth and inexperience.  They can't afford to take on anyone - or piss of China - which is what would happen if they actually did anything other than shoot across the DMV periodically - the crazy and misery is largely contained and China prefers it that way.

Their rocket technology is a joke. Their access to nuke materials is also a joke because China would flatten their asses - they can't have that shit on their borders in the hands of a possible madman struggling to hold onto power.

They just want food and heating oil and to feel better about their lack of place in the world - and KJU wants to stay in power.  Rattle, rattle, rattle.

And we sail and we sail and we never see land, just the rum in the bottle and a pipe in my hand...

be primitive (and fully ballistic) but credible estimates place their number at between 4,000 and 10,000 pieces.  Assuming a firing rate of 1 shell per minute that means 40k shells raining down on Seoul after only 10 minutes and I doubt we can destroy them in less than 10 minutes (and it probably wouldn't do much if any good as I doubt they have more than 50k shells in usable condition anyway).

        •  I would think they'd have counter measures by now (2+ / 0-)

The south Koreans---no slouches in warfare themselves-- have been getting ready for this for a long time. That threat has been known for a long long time.
I bet there's counter measures to that in place already

even if you manage to shoot them and disable the explosive charge they are still going to do a decent amount of damage just from pure kinetic energy.  It's not like a cruise missile where you can blow it up somewhere safe.  Think of trying to defend against cannonballs from old style black powder cannon and you have the right idea only at longer range.  Besides, there is no defensive system that can handle 4,000 incoming projectiles at once.

        •  I don't think they're prepared to do that (0+ / 0-)

because they don't have the food or resources to back it up and cut their ties to China.  Yeah, they could fuck Seoul up - but the fallout of facing China, South Korea and the US - they simply aren't capable of doing it - and they know it.
