an average of 4k usable tubes (due to some being destroyed quickly as well as some failing due to lack of maintenance) that is 40k rounds in only 10 minutes assuming a firing rate of one per minute per launcher so even if by some miracle they are all destroyed in an hour that is 240k shells assuming they even have that many to use.  Not to mention it is pretty hard to defend against artillery as it is purely ballistic and even if you disable the explosive component you still have to deal with the glorified cannonball that is still incoming.

    •  It's a unique situation in military history. (2+ / 0-)

We're getting close to the point where a preemptive strike might be the most humane and lawful and ethical response.

I'm not advocating that.  But unlike the illegal war in Iraq, and the illegal drone wars around the globe, this might be a case where action is needed to save lives.  Apparently the North Koreans have not mobilized to the extent that this is a real danger.

But I know from some contacts in the Pentagon that the United States is seriously preparing for war.  Yet again.

Seoul would be demolished (and if you are thinking about evacuation then that wouldn't work as the evacuation itself would trigger the shelling).  So unless you can guarantee that they are about to fire up the artillery batteries within the next hour it is a horrible idea.
