      for very long.  All you have to do is corrupt the BGP routes (the tables that list who owns what IP address and how to get there) at a Tier 1 ISP and the whole thing will go down because everyone trusts each other at that level.  Remember when Pakistan blocked youtube for everyone on the planet (by negligence, not design) for several hours even though they were fully cooperating to undo it once they realized it had spread outside of Pakistan?  Of course, in a day or three it would pretty much be fixed (and US ISPs would be heavily restricted in response by everyone else) but that might be long enough.
