    Our local dump has an annual Book Recycling Week (which every dump should have-- it's an all-week give-and-take free-for-all).... Anyways this woman hauls a box out of her SUV; I say "Ooh! Is that a set of Thackeray? I haven't read all of Thackeray yet."

    She looked at me like I was insane.

    (The people who bring huge hauls of books to the dump tend to be people who have come into possession of them accidentally and can't figure out what you're supposed to do with the damn things.)

      recyling organizations are one of the things I miss about New England.

      Not only good books, but sometimes (if the summah people have been cleaning out their fancy closets) designer clothes and fancy doo-dads, too.
