  •  Always took great pride that Siskel & Ebert (7+ / 0-)

    were from Chicago.

I was a kid when they started but next to classic programming and movies on WGN (just a regular station then, not a "superstation") I watched the PBS channel the most. (That's why I have millions of neurons devoted just to Monty Python lines.) When they went national I felt extra cool that I was a fan before they were famous. ;-)

I have not lived in Chicago for many, many years, so I lost touch. It did not occur to me to see what he was up to with internet social media. (I can only spend so much of my life in front of a computer, considering it's also my profession.) But even after all this time and distance I think of them as hometown treasures.

One of my aunts in Chicago just passed this week from cancer, much sooner than we expected as well. Unfortunately, I can't attend the funeral. I'll just have to mourn two more losses from my childhood from afar.

    Sometimes, getting old just sucks.
