China is a developing country, the US is not.

The EU spends 5-6% - we used to spend 5-6% of GDP.

That said 6% of GDP spent on infrastructure is nearly a trillion dollars a year and would create about 23 billion jobs.

U6 is about 23 million people.

Creating 23 million jobs would insure Social Security thru 2090.

    •  Roger - just a nit (0+ / 0-)

is there a typo in the sentence "....would create about
23 billion jobs"? My guess is that it should read "23 million jobs".

      "let's talk about that"

So a trillion would create between 20 and 25 million jobs. Closer to 25m in a recession, closer to 20m in good economic times.

so yeah, about 23 million..... around 23 million.....

        •  Ah, yes! The multiplier effect of infrastructure (2+ / 0-)

expenditures in the local economy.  I believe the environmental documents I've been involved in have a similar multiplier for the economic impact section, as prepared by professional economists, with conservtive assumptions. Yes, we could fix out own stuff, AND build new needed stuff (we will NOT keep up with repairs of the old - thepopulation and needs have increased since those old items were built), and provide a LOT of employment.  Here, in the uSA.

          Imagine that.

    •  And right now, spending on infrastructure (2+ / 0-)

would be a complete bargain, as interest rates are at record lows.  People are practically paying the USA to hold Treasury bonds.

Spending on infrastructure now would have enormous payoff in the short term and longer term, plus be the cheapest possible price in years, due to the low rates.

I really do feel it is criminal that we are not repairing our nation with advanced infrastructure to move into a greener future with the enormous opportunity we have at hand right now!

And god knows we need the damn jobs. JOBS!  Hello, Washington -- wanna fix the budget deficit:  JOBS!

      •  We in rural California had created thousands (0+ / 0-)

Good paying jobs, just through meeting  the needs of the medical marijuana clinics, all duly agreed upon through the vote of the people. And we didn't need governmental monies to do this.

Then Obama's DOJ came in and smashed many of the dispensaries, so  that some six thousand of those jobs are now lost. But hey, the folks inside the prison industry need to know the prisons will be full!
