    were great pop bands.

    A friend of mine ten years older got to see the Who open for Herman's Hermits in Cleveland, on The Who's first tour.  She said that The Who were so intense that Herman's Hermits were understandably afraid to go on.  Or so it seemed to her.

      There was a similar mis-matched tour where Jim Hendrix opened for the Monkees.  The way I heard it, several of the Monkees would just stand backstage and watch in awe as Hendrix played, probably thinking, "how in the hell is this guy opening for us?"
