      founding of the nation. As long as some portion of the population is in slavery and/or servitude, government BY the people is a goal not yet achieved. Was Lincoln cognizant of the significance of that little word, "by?" I'd say not. He was into governing on their behalf, as he thought best. He certainly didn't want the Confederate states to govern themselves and issuing their own currency.
      Consider that, as a result of the Civil War, the United States went where the countries in the euro zone are going now. Greece and Spain and Italy and Cyprus are discovering what it means not to have their own currency and being dependent on an organization that's inclined to ration.

      We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
