  •  Your mom should see a doctor. People, especially (12+ / 0-)

older people, often do not recognize deficits, and falls are very damaging to old people.

You dad sounds like the wrappings are coming loose also. Can you make a phone call to their doctor, or minister or someone to whom they would pay attention?

    Someone you respect, also?

Talk to a pharmacist about your meds and side effects. Although going for walks shouldn't be harmful anyway.

    •  Mum's only 65 (10+ / 0-)

and she's pretty active generally - just not in the housework department.  Gardens, works part time, paints, helps her Mum with shopping and things around the house, etc.  She might just be having a couple bad days in a row - it does happen.  They just aren't usually so impact oriented.

Dad is losing it.  12 cats, turning the bathtub of my brother's old bathroom into a giant litter box - and of course the FOX addiction doesn't help.  All he talks about is weird shit, frankly.  I was really shocked when I came home and saw how he was day to day.

They don't do religion, I definitely do not have permission to speak to their medical providers - or know who they are - they handle their own appointments - well Mum handles them.  She doesn't want to deal with the possibility he's going senile, so she just ignores it - that is her coping mechanism for most things she doesn't want to deal with.  She fully expects to outlive him - and he's been exposed to so much Agent Orange and the like - even he doesn't expect another ten years.  They are going to Scotland this year because he worries he might bot make it otherwise and it's on his bucket list.

But he forgets things ALL the time you just told him, wanders off in pointless Vietnam stories and the weird little songs - all the time.  When I was at the dentist a week ago they needed an income statement that they are currently supporting me and asked him into the office - and he sang one in the office - told a Vietnam story and clearly had missed the OK, sir, you can go back out to the waiting room signs from the paperwork lady.

I don't have a pharmacist, I get the meds at the local mental health clinic and asking questions is pretty useless - but I was warned this last one could make me pack on the pounds by the doctor who wrote the script.  It's just a really weird sensation - like I can feel the fat growing.  So I did a couple miles today and will slowly add onto that until it gets too hot for me to be outside.  We eat balanced meals, but I have my Mum's crap metabolism and tend to pack on pounds easier than some - I'm not grossly overweight, just a bit chubby - 36ish waist and a flabby tum.

And we sail and we sail and we never see land, just the rum in the bottle and a pipe in my hand...

      •  Take the name of the med, go to Walgreens or (7+ / 0-)

CVS or Target or Walgreens and ask to speak to the pharmacist. My sister is a pharmacist for Walgreens - they know medications and are able to answer questions about them.

The Phm may need to know what medical reason you are taking the drug, but they are bound under medical ethics rules, HIPPA and confidentiality to keep it to themselves.

And if the Phm breeches that, CONGRATS!!! You will get a big check after suing them and the chain they work for.

Yes, your parents sound in not good shape. If your mom was concussed she may be worse off than she thinks.

Do they have a lawyer? Can that person be helpful?

Also, there are exercise channels, I don't know if your folks have that cable package, though.

        •  no lawyer - they are FOXbots and not that rich (8+ / 0-)

so they don't trust no stinking lawyers.

I think we have a Walgreens not far from here, I can check it out there.

If she's still dragging tomorrow I will make her call her doctor at least.

I definitely am not going to try and fight for the remote from Col CatLady - I'd rather walk and daydream about the TARDIS showing up.  Tae kwon do starts back on Tuesday - that will work off plenty of it for sure as well as a daily couple miles.

Like I said, we eat pretty healthy - and the medication seems to work well for the reason I take it - I'm trying to be proactive about combating the potential expanding waistline. A lot of drugs in that class do that to people and I've been massive before - DO NOT WANT ever again.
