    ... because it points out a danger inherent in times of crisis.  I hate to go all Godwin on the subject because I do not think that is where we are headed, but the efficiency of technocrats can lead to what has been called the 'banality of evil' in Nazi Germany.  In order to create and manage atrocities on such an enormous scale and for such a long time, the efficient skill-set of the German technocrat was absolutely necessary.  The horrifying accuracy of their record-keeping and the thoroughness of their programs are a testament to this.

    Democracy failed when it allowed the Nazis to come to power but it was the technocrats who continued operating a system of horror after the democracy had been terminated.  

    All of that being said - Both technocrats and democracy are necessary.  Elections have consequences.

    Please do not be alarmed. We are about to engage... the nozzle.
